IFMAR 1/8 IC Fuel World Championships, 2011

The IFMAR World Championship for 1/8 On-Road fuel race cars was held at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida. Ray Schneider was there with his Nikon, and got a series of photos on the Finals day that capture much of the "feel" from this event. The photos speak for themselves - for anyone who was there, or who wishes he was there, I think you'll enjoy them.

Ray gave me a DVD with 400 of the photos he liked the most. I wanted to cut it down to 50, but couldn't get that far - too many images that I like too much.... so, here's Ray's photographs, about 60 of them. For those who are interested in these things, Ray used an old Nikon D200 with several lenses. I think they prove once again that the key to getting good photographs has nothing to do with owning the latest camera gear, but everything to do with knowing how to use it effectively.

For full details of the race, as it happened, please read the following thread on the RC Tech Forums:

Great pics Mike. Interesting to see that people are still using two-stick radios for cars.

MK, did you notice the 7th pic from the bottom, the kid has the antenna out on the radio but is using a 2.4ghz module on a stick radio? Kinda odd to have the regular fm antenna pulled out if you're not using it.

He's probably doing it to psych out the other drivers giving them a false sense of security that he's using some old POS. The pyschology of racing.... LOL!!

Nice photos! And yes I agree it is the eye of the photographer not the equipment that makes the shot.I wish I could have been there. I would have liked it if Ray Wood was still filming these events. I enjoy his dvd's and watch them over and over.

I'll check with Ray to see if he's getting interested once again. There's a W/C in Bangkok coming up soon, and his friend Surikarn will be competing. Maybe that will get him fired up.

Lots of people record r/c racing from video cameras, but Ray is also an artist, as well as being a perfectionist. Actually, that's part of the problem - he puts SO much effort into his video productions that he really needs more customers in order to continue. Maybe if enough people send him messages, he'll begin to realize how much he is missed.

Yeah, Ray is definetly an artist..His shots are the best and set up is incredible. Really inspried me to keep enjoying this hobby. Especially during these loooong New England winters! I shot him an e-mail not long ago. Never heard anything back but will shot him another. I recently bought the 2009 Ifmar on road vid. and was thinking the commentary at the end was telling. I hope he re-considers. I will do what I can to get people to look into his work.

Also, this is not to take away from the person who shot these photos in this thread. These are great as well..
